Defensible Space Establishment
Establishing safe perimeters; One of the greatest hazards faced by western communities is that which an uncontrolled wildfire presents to urban neighborhoods. As more and more homeowners seek to live on the outskirts of townships, or build summer homes in rural areas, more structures are now at risk. These semi-rural areas are known as the wildland-urban interface. Fire moves easily from burning trees and brush, to incinerating houses and outbuildings; and once one house is in flames, flaming debris and embers ignite those buildings nearby. As has been recommended by many experts (and even mandated in California), we approach each property with the goal of building at least a 100' "defensible space" through which fire cannot easily spread. This involves careful thinning, pruning, or outright removal of trees and brush surrounding homes, businesses, or whatever other valued assets you possess, leaving a fuel-free zone which greatly reduces a fire's ability to burn up to and ignite standing structures. The cleared space surrounding a home also provides ease of access for fire engines and firefighters. In short, the establishment of a safety perimeter is possibly the most critical element in protecting your home from the onslaught of a wildfire. Our experienced and hardworking crews use chainsaws, wood chippers, and other landscaping tools to clear this space quickly and efficiently, completing each job in accordance with your specific needs.
